Under water only last weekend, Douglas Park’s Course Manager and his team did a superb job in reinstating the course, to a very respectable condition for a major competition, at this time of year. For the third year running, we had won the Donald Cameron League (DCL) and then the Boundary Bell, against the Southside League winners, earning the right to represent Glasgow in the Inter-City Cup. Craigielaw our Edinburgh opponents were formidable opposition, fielding a team including Lothian County players and Angus Carrick (Scottish Amateur Champion 2021).
We have gone undefeated in All matches throughout the season and there is now a quiet inner-belief and determination that we can compete with the best.
At the turn we were only down in three matches and we didn’t take a backwards step.
Four matches finished by the 15th. Surprisingly at this level and testimony to the quality of golf played by GGC, the 18th Green was only visited once. A truly awesome performance to dominate, what can not be over emphasised, an excellent Craigielaw side.
We have had a fabulous season – A Grand Slam of victories: The (DC League); The Boundary Bell; The DCL Foursomes & the icing on the cake The Inter-City Cup. Only achieved by one other side, Cawder in 2015.
Form is temporary but class is permanent. In the last three years the Team have incredibly only lost four matches. A fabulous team spirit, alongside a strong winning mentality and appetite has earned them a place as one of the best sides to have played in the Donald Cameron League.
A privilege to Manage the team. Superb golfers, a great bunch of guys and they are truly a credit to Glasgow Golf Club.
