Notice of Former Member’s Death

Members will be sorry to learn of the death of former member William R (Bill) Hardie on 22nd January. He was 79.

An acknowledged authority on Scottish painting, Bill wrote several books on the subject and, after being Deputy Director of Dundee Art Gallery and Museum and then setting up Christie’s Scottish Pictures Department, he established his own gallery, William Hardie Fine Art, in Glasgow in 1984. Bill was responsible for the production of the original replica of the Club’s portrait of Old Tom Morris and he also carried out regular valuations of the Club’s paintings, most recently in 2016.
